The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, or CIPC as it is better known, is an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry. CIPC was established by the Companies Act, 2008 (Act No. 71 of 2008) and its functions include the registration of companies, co-operatives and intellectual property rights (trademarks, patents, designs and copyright) and maintenance thereof and the disclosure of information on its business registers.
